One would think “praise the Lord” is a phrase that has been used so many times in worship music that it would no longer work or be viable. However, this song encourages the church to “praise” yet again, and in a sweet, not over the top, and un-saccharine way. The bridge lyric really answers the question: why praise? Does it change God’s mind? Does our praise sway the will of the almighty? Hardly! From the bridge” “When we praise, things change” - because it’s US who change when we praise. This song gives the church a fresh opportunity to do just that: praise! And to do so in a mid-tempo, light, singable, and accessible way.
